Katara, on the other hand, grew up as the only water bender in her village. While Zuko and his sister Azula were intimidating fighters thanks to their years of training in the Fire Nation, Aang was powerful because he was the Avatar and also had some training growing up. But one of them seemed to be a bit more gifted than the others. And Katara was the heart that held it all together, helping Aang through each tough moment.Įach of the characters seen on the show had their own strengths and weaknesses, whether they be through battle, strategy, or wit. Sokka was welcome comic relief, but was layered by caring deeply for his companions. Zuko was heartbreaking in the way he struggled with doing what his powerful family expected of him. But it was the fantastic group of characters that truly sold it.Īang was sympathetic as a boy who was being forced to put his childhood on hold to save the world. Its beautiful animation inspired by Japanese anime paired wonderfully with its story of a young boy that offered the world hope. I don't think I'm overstating when I say that Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the most important pieces of kids television ever created.
